“…a certain sacredness”

“It’s not just the meaning of the image that has changed – the act of looking does not have the same meaning. Now, it’s about showing, sending and maybe remembering. It is no longer essentially about the image. The image for me was always linked to the idea of uniqueness, to a frame and to composition. You produced something that was, in itself, a singular moment. As such, it had a certain sacredness. That whole notion is gone.”

    1. I like Wim, his films and his photography. He has been making imagery for a long time. His quote resonates with me very much. All we can do is to keep doing what we do. I find hope in that.

      1. Me too. I agree with Wim’s quote. The way I understood it was that with the advance of technology and the ability to share photos we have reached a glut, a surfeit that boggles the mind and senses so much so that photos don’t have the same meaning as they did prior to the digital age. Now I could be wrong in my assessment but that is what I took from the quote.

I still have my late Dad’s Kodachrome slides from the early 1950s until the late 1980s and my Dad’s quality of work and execution is one that I aspire to every day. Kinda wish I still had the slide carousel to display his slides but that disappeared after his death.
