I was walking down St. Nicholas Avenue. I always pass this wall of graffiti just off the corner. What seemed so incongruous (first time I ever have used this word in a sentence) was this large stone placed in front of it. It had to have weighed at least 40+ lbs.. Where did it come from I wondered??? I then remembered that a lot of Manhattan had it’s bedrock showing. Manhattan was a hilly island. In most places the land was leveled for streets and buildings. In the back of some buildings one can still see large outcroppings of rock that were not leveled or dynamited into obliteration.
