Sparrow

Having been working from home since COVID began, I’ve grown quite fond of a family of sparrows that nest in a hole in the alley facade of my building. You can just see the hole in the upper left of this image. The hole is next to our kitchen window.

I started to put out seed and they come by everyday. Sometimes three. My wife began feeding a couple of pigeons before I started feeding the sparrows. The two pigeons are now sometimes as many as 15. They bully the sparrows away, so I feed them separately, chasing the pigeons away when the sparrows come to feed.

The sparrows are quite funny move away to the side when my hand places seed on the window ledge. This window is next to my computer. They know when I am working, as they peer through the window and see me. They know if I don’t respond by the kitchen window they will come to this one. They hang onto the screen and make noises to let me know that they are there and want to be fed. One at a time.
