He almost looks like a Midwest farmer with those massive hands, that cap, the jeans. This image makes me want to engage in conversation, hear his story.
One thing that is difficult, is engaging with anyone on the subway. Most people react in anger, not all, at a comment even if one’s voice or statement is non threatening. People on the subway want to remain within their own shell, their own cocoons, getting to where they are going with little or no trouble.
That would be difficult for me given I like to talk to people, even strangers. But, yes, I see in his body language that this guy just wants to be left alone.
