Hip Update

My hip recovery has been progressing fine. I am in my third full week of physical therapy. The only thing that has been holding me back, is that I was diagnosed with arthritis in my left knee. This explains the knee pain I woke up with a week before my surgery. I did mention it to my surgeon before my surgery. I received a cortisone injection for it at my hip post op last week. It has helped. It allows me to walk fairly unimpeded and even ride my bike, which I did this past weekend. Pathetically I must must add. I’ll have to deal with the knee at later date. I’ll also receive PT for it as well. We have a family holiday planned for October and I do not want anything to get in the way. All this just raises my anxiety level knowing that I still have things to do, surgical procedures, before I return to full physical function. Too much to think about causing loss of sleep. This could all take take weeks if not months. I also still require a couple of procedures for POUR, post urinary retention. I might not be able to have any more surgery until this has been dealt with. I am not looking forward to this at all.

  1. You know how to keep the party going, Keith. Riding your bike, no matter how pathetic, must be good for you, though. I hope all goes well for you.
I have mild arthritis in my left knee and my doc gave me a prescription for Diclofenac Sodium topical gel. The script is cheaper than buying it OTC and that seems to help. You are brave to do cortisone; I couldn’t do it.

  2. Truth is, there’s usually ‘one more thing’. Typing this with one eye, this time it’s cataracts. Over the years I e changed my perspective on this. I had my hip down, and while I need a lift in a show. I’m out walking. I had my neck rebuilt, by changing gear to Olympus I’m back out with the critters. Now the cataracts, well what was becoming grey is now a blue sky.

All I’m saying is the ongoing repairs are not fun, but if it’s available it keeps us moving and quality of life is better. I’m 76 and yesterday I was showing some ‘young’ tourists how to work around and deal with Alligators that were in their path 😂😂.

    1. Ted, if you were here in NYC, I have a great eye surgeon I could recommend. He did my cataracts some 13 tears ago and manages my glaucoma. Just by coincidence, he was also Elliot Erwitt’s eye doctor as well.

      1. Well, thanks 👍👍. I’m typing this with one eye, the other under a patch 😂😂. Had some Glaucoma work done at the same time.

Last year when I had the neck fused with rods and partial paralysis (camera hand but workd

  3. Oh, Keith, I’m sorry for all the health issues you are experiencing, but thankful the hip healing seems to be going well. As we age, our bodies are wearing down, no matter how hard we try to take care of ourselves. I feel so grateful for skilled doctors who can help us. Hang in there.
