Bird

This is “Bird”. I feed him everyday, along with a small to large group of pigeons. Sometimes there are as many as twenty. These small sparrows are my favorite though. So tiny and fragile. He nests with his family just to the left of the second window on the right. There is a hole in the masonry and that is where they reside. Over the last few years I see him or his partner feed their chicks. I work right near this window whose screen he is climbing on. He will call out to me with various sounds, and if I do not respond with a small handful of seed, he will climb on the screen until he sees me over the plants that my wife has placed there. I have no choice but to feed him, chase the pigeons away while he feeds, or they will shove him out of the way and steal his food. I am very protective of him and the few other sparrows that come to feed. He is the only one that will stay when I am near the screen, as he knows I will protect him from the pigeons.
